2005 Vin de Pays Vaucluse 50% Merlot/50% Carignan

Like last nights wine, this is from the negociant Du Peloux. It's 4$
at TJ's. It sucks. This is the worst wine I've had from TJ's in a long
time. You can definitely find better stuff for the price. Just goes to
show its a good idea to avoid the big varietals in cheap wine. D-/F

I totally concur on the atrociousness of this wine. My notes read:

Plonky stuff. No bouquet until some rubber emerged. Bitter and sour simultaneously. A bad value even at $4.

Run, don't walk, away from this stuff!

I agree about the rubber part. This wine is just plain awful. I think that in general, TJ's is best for the "strange" varietal wines. Since people don't want to buy them, they end up being cheaper. The "big" varietals, that are "safer," frequently end up awful, because if it's even semi-decent, it can be sold at a higher price.
